UN Women WE Empower Programme

Stephanie Dei – UN National Coordinator for WE Empower was the keynote speaker. Description: “Learn how the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) are advancing the Gender Equality Revolution. Discover how members in your community are thinking globally and acting locally and how you can be a part of history in the making.”

The CCEW was pleased to recognize industry leaders in STEM and to celebrate community advocates who empower women and girls to explore and succeed in the
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) fields of endeavour.

Recognition of CCEW signatories at Women's Empowerment Community Building Event

As noted in the WE EMPOWER: Responsible Business Conduct in G7 Countries release, Scotiabank has set up 21 employee focus groups across Canada and its Pacific Alliance Countries (Mexico, Peru, Chile & Columbia) to obtain feedback on the barriers to achieving gender balance in leadership roles.

They were recently recognized for their work aligned with the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPS) specifically:

  • Principle #1: Establish high-level corporate leadership for gender equality;
  • Principle #4: Promote education, training and professional development for women and;
  • Principle #6: Promote equality through community initiatives and advocacy at the Celebrating Women in STEM – Empowerment Gala.
Scotiabank Empowerment Award

Bank of Montreal (BMO), McKenzie Box and Melissa Sampth-Persaud, accept a Commendation presented by BPW Canada, Vice President Karin Gorgerat, joined by BPW Ontario President Maide Yazar – October 25th, 2016.

Congratulations to BMO for its recognition at the 2017 Gender Equality Awards sponsored by Global Compact Network Canada for its progress related to:

  • Principle #1: Establish high-level corporate leadership for gender equality,
  • Principle #4: Promote education, training and professional development for women, and
  • Principle #5: Implement enterprise development, supply chain and marketing practices that empower women.
