Dr. Birjandifar, originally from Iran, moved to Canada in 2001. She pursued studies in Montreal first at Concordia University, and later at McGill University’s Institute of Islamic Studies, where she completed her Ph.D. with a specialization in Iranian history.
Nazak teaches the history of the modern Middle East. Her latest research project is focused on the life and career of early 20th-century female Iranian singer, Qamar al-Moluk Vaziri.
Nazak will be sharing the historical background of Iranian women’s struggles for equal rights with a special focus on the issue of hijab in the 20th and 21st centuries.
